At the parish family meeting parishioners were asked to present some of their family worries. Josie told her story and many of the women could agree. “I didn’t ask to fall pregnant when I was still a school girl. I suppose I was stupid not to know how to protect myself. But then I suppose I was lucky to marry a nice young man, except that two years later he left me with another child and went off with a rich older woman. He doesn’t bother to support me and the children and at times I feel very burdened and depressed.”
Moses said to the Lord, ‘Why have I not found favour in your sight that you lay the burden of all this people upon me? Did I conceive all this people? Did I bring them forth, that you should say to me, ‘Carry them in your bosom as a nurse carries the sucking child’ I am not able to carry all this people alone, the burden is too heavy for me “ Numbers 11:4-15.
Pope Francis: When speaking of children who come into the world, no sacrifice made by adults will be considered too costly or too great, if it means the child never has to feel that he or she is a mistake, or worthless or abandoned to the four winds and the arrogance of man. AL 166
