Mom shared with the family, “When I was a young girl we seemed to spend more time reading books about the lives of saints. Some were popes but thousands of them were missionaries fired up to go to foreign countries to bring the gospel to new nations. Many thousands came to our country. It must have been really scary for them. One day we had a visiting priest preaching to us and I was so inspired that I told him I wanted to go and be a missionary in China, but he didn’t quite agree with that. Nowadays we don’t see missionaries in quite the same way.”
Our people came here from Ireland and China and Zambia too, From cities like Munich and Lisbon and London and Timbucktoo.
A lot of them came here by ship, cause there weren’t any aeroplanes yet, Or they walked a very long way. Were they scared of the lions? You bet! TR
I have given you authority to tread upon serpents and scorpions and over all the power of the enemy and nothing shall hurt you. Nevertheless do not rejoice in this that the spirits are subject to you, but rejoice that your names are written in heaven. Luke 10:17-24
Pope Francis: The disciple is ready to put his or her whole life on the line, even to accepting martyrdom, in bearing witness to Jesus Christ. Yet the goal is not to make enemies but to see God’s word accepted and its capacity for liberation and renewal revealed. EG 24
