LENT AND EASTER FOR FAMILIES WITH MARFAM
All family members in all their various relationships grow in the spirituality of family life through those family relationships and prayer for and with one another. The liturgical season of Lent and Easter is a valuable opportunity to develop this more deeply. There may be a Lenten programme, Stations of the Cross, a Penitential Service or Paschal Meal in the parish but these type of activities can and should also be performed in the domestic church, the family.
Suggestions range from a home altar to having a pancake Shrove Tuesday night. There are Stations of the Cross for Families that can be prayed in the family, or for Widowed or Bereaved people who can relate to the final moments in the life of Jesus and of Mary in a particular way that can offer healing in their loss.
Family activities include making palm crosses, hot cross buns, an Easter garden or painting Easter eggs. Liturgically the symbols used during Lent and Holy Week are meaningful to explain.
