Grandmother Josie took her turn and said, “I would like us to go back to what Jesus himself is saying in these readings from John’s gospel. He continually disputes with the Jewish leaders about God, and his relationship with his Father, his work of glorifying God and how God glorifies him. This was one of the main reasons for his conflict with them as they saw this as blasphemy. I wonder how they understood this term, “glorifying” and how can we understand it now. I find this kind of language very difficult. To me self-glorification doesn’t seem like humility. What do you think?”
If I glorify myself my glory is nothing, it is my Father who glorifies me, of whom you say that he is your God. But you have not known him. I know him. John 8: 54-55.
Pope Francis: Each year sees the disappearance of thousands of plant and animal species that we will never know and our children will never see. Because of us they will no longer give glory to God by their very existence nor convey their message to us. LS 33.
After reflecting consider an action response and end with prayer.
