Evangelising with compassion

Manny had wanted to become a prison warder, but not because he had that nasty cruel streak that we tend to think of when we think of prison life.  Ever since he had a met a prison chaplain and heard his stories about life in prison he had a strange feeling of compassion and thought he could do a lot of good there. He didn’t want to share with his classmates as he was sure they would laugh at him. They already thought he was a bit odd. “Let those bad guys rot in jail” was mostly their attitude.                                                                                                                                                                                              Jesus departed from Samaria to Galilee. He himself testified that a prophet has no honour in his own country. When he came to Galilee the Galileans welcomed him.  From John 43-54.

Pope Francis:     An evangelising community gets involved by word and deed.  It is willing to abase itself if necessary and embraces human life, touching the suffering flesh of Christ in others.   EG 24.
