Complementarity. Family Thought: Women and Men Matter August 21

In their older years Jason and Monica sometimes laughed about their past ideals. “I wanted to lead the women in their struggle for equality.”  “I thought the men were being overrun by these domineering females in the Church.” “It was when we discovered the value of complementarity in relationships, marriage and others, that we found some peace in our lives!”

The trees said to the fig tree, “Come you, and reign over us.” But the fig tree said to them, “Shall I leave my sweetness and my good fruit and go to sway over the trees?” Then the trees said to the bramble, “Come and reign over us.”  And the bramble said, “If in good faith you are anointing me king, then come and take refuge in my shade.” Judges 9:6-15.

Pope Francis:  The Holy Spirit enriches the entire evangelizing Church with different charisms.   These gifts are meant to renew and build up the Church.   Differences between persons and communities can sometimes provide uncomfortable but the Holy Spirit who is the source of diversity can bring forth something good from all things. EG 130-1
