Baptism a beginning and a calling

When their new baby was baptised Yolanda and Aubrey explained the meaning and task of baptism to the older children.  “Gone are the days when some people were called and chosen for ministry and the rest of us were just ordinary members of the church, doing only what we were told.  Pope Francis now likes to tell us, challenge us even, that our baptism gives us a job to do. In our own way and place, as teachers, lawyers, housewives, gardeners, unemployed youth and schoolchildren too, we should go out and proclaim God’s love. His love is for every human being and also for every created being.” “So then, I think that the way we love our baby sister has something to do with God’s love too,”  Amy said.

Jesus saw Simon and his brother Andrew casting a net in the sea.   And he said to them, “Follow me and I will make you fishers of men.”

Pope Francis.  God wills the interdependence of creatures.  The sun and the moon, the cedar and the little flower, the eagle and the sparrow, the spectacle of their countless diversities and inequalities tells us that no creature is self-sufficient.
