Alcohol use and abuse. Ubuntu Family Thought 7 July

“When I hear about drinking I get all knotted up inside” Mabel shared.  “At church gatherings, at least, they shouldn’t have wine because alcoholism and drunkenness is such a big problem these days. I know I had it in our family and it affected all ages.”  “But should we not also be able to appreciate a good wine. It is a gift from God too,” Dorothy said.  “Moderation my dear, is what I always say.” Portia concluded.

Behold the days are coming, says the Lord, when I will restore the fortunes of my people Israel, they shall plant vineyards and drink their wine and they shall make gardens and eat their fruit.” From Amos 9:11-15.

Pope Francis.  Drug use is one of the scourges of our time. The same is true of alcoholism, gambling and other addictions.   They cause immense suffering and even breakup. The family could be the place where these are prevented and overcome but society fails to see that families at risk lose the ability to act to help their members.   AL51
